Are you an expert in survival and primitive skills with a passion for sharing your knowledge with adults? As a Freelance Survival and Primitive Skills Instructor for adult courses, you’ll have the opportunity to teach seasoned outdoor enthusiasts and novices alike the art of thriving in the wild using traditional techniques and modern practices.
In this role, you'll design and lead comprehensive workshops that delve into both foundational and advanced survival skills. Your courses will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including shelter construction, firecraft, foraging, tracking, and basic wilderness first aid. Your aim will be to equip participants with practical skills they can use in real-world scenarios, while also fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and self-reliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver well-structured, informative, and engaging survival and primitive skills workshops tailored to adults of varying experience levels.

  • Teach hands-on techniques in areas such as shelter building, fire making, water purification, and navigation using traditional methods.

  • Incorporate advanced topics like foraging, crafting tools, and wilderness first aid into your curriculum as appropriate.

  • Create a dynamic learning environment that encourages participation, critical thinking, and practical application of skills.

  • Ensure all safety protocols are adhered to, including risk management and emergency preparedness.

  • Provide clear communication with clients and participants, offering detailed course information, answering questions, and addressing any concerns.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in survival and primitive skills, with a robust understanding of both historical and modern techniques.

  • Experience instructing adult learners in outdoor or survival settings.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and engagingly.

  • Certification in first aid and CPR (preferred).

  • A deep-seated passion for outdoor education and a commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and resilience.

 

 

Training


As a new member of our team, you'll be embarking on an exciting journey to equip yourself with the skills and knowledge necessary to guide and inspire others in the art of survival. Our comprehensive training program is designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in survival instruction, combining practical experience with foundational teaching principles.


Overview:
Our Survival Instructor Tryout program is structured to provide you with a thorough understanding of survival techniques, instructional strategies, and safety protocols. You’ll gain hands-on experience in essential survival skills, learn effective teaching methods, and develop the confidence to lead dynamic and engaging classes for a diverse range of participants.

 

You must attend a 7 day Instructor Tryout


Survival Skills:
Spend the first 3 days each morning demonstrating fundamental survival skills, including shelter building, firecraft, water purification, navigation, and basic first aid.
Advanced Skills: demonstrate each morning your knowledge in more advanced topics such as wilderness first aid, tracking, foraging, and tool-making.


Instructional Performance


Curriculum Development: learn how to design and structure survival courses that are educational, engaging, and tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
Teaching Methods: Develop and demonstrate effective teaching techniques, including hands-on demonstrations, group activities, and problem-solving exercises.
Safety and Risk Management:
Emergency Protocols:
Familiarize yourself with safety procedures, risk management strategies, and emergency response protocols to ensure a safe learning environment.
Health and Safety: demonstrate how to manage common health and safety concerns in outdoor settings, including first aid and emergency preparedness.


Participant Engagement


Communication Skills: Show your ability to communicate clearly and motivate participants, fostering a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
Feedback and Evaluation: Learn how to provide constructive feedback and assess participant progress to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Field Training:
Practical Exercises: Participate in evening field exercises to apply your skills in real-world scenarios, receiving hands-on guidance and feedback from experienced instructors while teaching skills to other participants and instructors.
Mock Classes: Day 6 you will plan and Lead 30 min mock classes to demonstrate your teaching skills, receive feedback, and refine your instructional approach.

Pay & Compensation

 

Instructor Compensation Package
As an instructor with us, you’ll benefit from a rewarding compensation package that reflects your expertise and dedication such as:
Course and Class Tuition: Instructors receive 65% of the total course or class tuition, ensuring you are fairly compensated for your valuable contributions and teaching excellence.
Travel Support: To assist with travel expenses, each instructor is provided with a gas card, helping to cover transportation costs associated with your classes.
Supplies Reimbursement: We offer reimbursement of up to $100 per month for necessary supplies, ensuring you have the resources needed to deliver high-quality instruction.
Annual Bonuses: In recognition of your commitment and outstanding performance, instructors are eligible for annual bonuses based on performance and contribution.
